You left me for dead

You decided to drive that night. You were too drunk to drive, but did so any way. The sad part is you didn’t have car insurance, then you staggered home and reported your car stolen.

But you didn’t know that there was a witness and you were identified as the driver. Since you were in this country illegally, you ran back to Mexico to avoid prosecution. Why did you run? Was that your second or third offense?

Did you know I had a wife with two kids plus my sister and her two children I was supporting. But how could you? You didn’t know me nor I you. You hit me at the worst possible time, the Sunday before Christmas.

You didn’t know I was delivering pizzas for a family friend so he wouldn’t have to worry about payroll. You didn’t know that I only worked on Sundays for him, but Monday through Friday, I was an order selector for Kmart Distribution Center, making $45,000 a year.

You could have caused me to severely injure, maim or kill another driver. I was going north, but when I came to rest, I was facing west in the south turn lane and I had gone over a median. But sir, I don’t remember the accident at all. I just remember heading north bound, talking to my dead uncle, then waking up in the back of the ambulance.

I don’t think you realize how much you hurt me and the life of injuries I’ve had to battle because of your poor decision making. My injuries included herniated disc in my back and neck, whiplash and concussion. I had to have back surgery, which kept me out of work…
