Memorial Day is the day in which we honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. A lot of good meaning folks will say to me thank for your service and I will acknowledge them, but today isn’t for me, it is for my fallen brothers and sisters. The time to thank me is on Veterans Day, that’s the day we honor us veterans.

Whether I served with them or not, those who died defending our country are my brothers and sisters. This weekend a lot of people will look at as I have four days off, time to get drunk and have a barbeque on Monday. Well I have no problems with that, but as long as you remember my fallen brothers and sisters, I am fine with it. Those I have a problem with are those that get so drunk and then drive, which could cause more fatalities.

I remember the Memorial Day celebrations that we had as a kid, we had a parade that was highly attended. My grandfather told me this was to honor those who gave their lives defending this country. The kids had their faces painted for free, balloons, hot dogs and an antique car show. Today you are lucky if you get one thousand people out for a parade.
