One of my main responsibilities, Unaccompanied minors
When you see a child flying unaccompanied he or she maybe scared to death, But the flight attendants know what they are doing. They have an array of activities to keep them busy, and these kids are catered too whether you believe it or not. When I say my major responsibility was unaccompanied minors let me explain.
CHECK-IN
As the ticket counter agent, I was responsible for ensuring, the drop off and pick up information was input into the computer. I was responsible for collecting the fee, placing the armband on the child and issuing the gate pass. This part would really get under my skin as mom would bring all of little Sally’s friends to go to the gate with them. Seriously, the gate agent is busy enough and so is TSA so don’t tie everyone up with a bunch of gate pass request.
This is where an experienced agent can spot something is not right as well. I was checking a couple going to Cancun. I asked if the kids behind them were their children and they said they were. I asked where were the kids going and how old were they. The father told that was none of my concern. I had my lead ask their age and they were eleven and nine. I explained to the parents that their children had to fly as unaccompanied minors given their ages. The father objected to having to stay with his children. He really objected…
