Mom knew not what to do
I was in college with a woman who was married to a black man. She was telling me of the trouble she was having with her oldest son. She asked me to spend some time with the boy who was around nine. I did and he opened up to me and told me he was embarrassed and felt out of place in his own home. He said his mother had three children by her second husband and he just couldn’t bond with his step father. One day she ordered a pizza from Dominos. I was her delivery driver but I didn’t know it was her address. As I knocked on the door her son came to the door, he was about ten maybe eleven and gorgeous as all get out. His mother came to the door as did his step father. When the step father came to the door he disappeared. Soon his stepfather disappeared with the pizzas.
The boys siblings showed up to see if there was any thing else to carry and I said that was it sweeties. My class mate said she had been meaning to talk to me. She said every time her husband showed up her oldest son disappeared into his room. I said to her the problem is your son is embarrassed. I told her to look around the house. I asked who looks like him in this house. She says his step father was a good man and loves her son. I asked again who looks like your son in this house? I said your second husband is black, your other three children are of mixed race and he is white. I asked don’t you think that is part of the problem? She told…
