A democrat from Virginia is proposing a 1,000% tax on AR-15’s. He plans to do through a committee that would make it filibuster proof. It would significantly increase the cost of the popular sports rifle. It would take a five hundred dollar rifle to nearly two thousand dollars.

The Second Amendment does not bar states and localities from imposing taxes on firearms and ammunition, provided the tax is not so high as to put gun ownership out of the reach of the ordinary consumer, thereby burdening gun ownership and infringing on the rights contemplated by the Second Amendment.

By proposing this tax you will see a run on the sale of AR-15’s now. People who never even considered owning one will now make that purchase. This proposal also violates the second amendment as shown above. You just aren’t allowed to put gun ownership out of the reach of an ordinary consumer. The democrat told Business Insider, that he’s open to discussing the high-percentage tax. “There’s nothing magical about that thousand percent number. It’s severe enough to actually inhibit and restrict sales. But also successful enough that it’s not seen as an absolute ban.” But does it violate the second amendment? That will be something the Supreme Court will have to decide, if so it will be struck down.

What is the solution to prevent those who are mentally ill from purchasing firearms? If I say get rid of HIPPA protections to where a potential gun buyer’s mental health records are made available, then the ACLU, and…
